Coast Guard medevacs man near Horn Island
NEW ORLEANS – The Coast Guard medevaced a 34-year-old man suffering from heart attack-like symptoms near Horn Island, Mississippi, Sunday.
Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Mobile received a report from local dispatch of a man who had been using a personal watercraft and was suffering heart attack-like symptoms on Horn Island.
Watchstanders directed the launch of a 45-foot Response Boat-Medium boatcrew from Coast Guard Station Pascagoula with local emergency medical services on board. Mississippi Department of Marine Resources also responded.
Upon arriving on scene, both responding units were unable to get close to shore so the man was transferred from Horn Island to the Response Boat-Medium via personal watercraft, where the EMT evaluated him.
The boatcrew transported the man to the awaiting ambulance at Station Pascagoula, which transported him to Singing River Hospital.
The man was reported to be in stable condition.
