CONFERENCE HONOREES
1. It is my distinct pleasure to announce and congratulate the 2017 Women of
Color in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Award recipients:
Ms. Debra Owens, District 8 Spectrum Manager of Base NOLA and MK1 Angel Leott, the
Assistant Engineering Petty Officer of MSST Boston as recipients of the Technology
Rising Star Award. Having distinguished themselves in STEM areas while epitomizing the
core values of the Coast Guard, our members will be recognized for their achievements
at the 22nd Women of Color STEM Conference. The Conference is a forum of choice for
recognizing the significant contributions by all Women in the STEM fields. Our members
will be honored 5-7 October 2017 in Detroit, MI as the Women of Color STEM Conference
celebrates the incredible technical achievements of some of the nation’s top
engineering and science talent.
2. The Women of Color STEM Conference is sponsored by Career Communications Group,
