UPDATE: Coast Guard, local agencies end search for missing kayaker off Revere

 

BOSTON — Coast Guard, state, and local agency search crews found the body of missing kayaker Craig Dustin, Sr. near Beachmont area of Revere, Wednesday.

 

At about 9:45 a.m., the search crews found Dustin's kayak washed ashore near Winthrop Parkway in Revere with his wallet inside.

 

Dustin was last seen at about 11 a.m., Tuesday, when he departed from a boat ramp near Fox Hill Yacht Club in Saugus. When he failed to return home at 2:30 p.m. as planned, his son went to the location Dustin launched from and saw his father's vehicle still there, prompting him to alert the Coast Guard.

 

"This is a sad ending to a difficult search," said Capt. Claudia Gelzer, commander Sector Boston. "Our hearts are with his family and the local community."

 

Crews saturated a 25 sq. nautical mile search area and Coast Guard crews searched throughout the night in Lynn Harbor, Nahant Bay, inland waters from Point of Pines, and the shoreline from Winthrop to Revere.

 

Search crews involved were:  Coast Guard Stations Point Allerton and Boston, Massachusetts State Police Marine Unit, Massachusetts State Police Special Emergency Response Team (SERT), Saugus Police and Fire Departments, Lynn Harbor Master, Lynn Police Department, Winthrop Harbormaster, Winthrop Police Department, Melrose Fire Department, Saugus Fire and Police Department, Swampscott Police Department, Revere Police Department, and Nahant Police Department.
