SUBJ:  2017 LATINA STYLE DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARD RECIPIENT
1. I am honored to announce and congratulate Yeoman First Class Ainara Farina,
as the 2017 Latina Style Distinguished Service Award Recipient. This award
recognizes excellence of women in the military who through their exemplary
service have enhanced the role of Latinas in the U.S. Coast Guard.
2. Petty Officer Farina, who serves in the Personnel and Administration
Division at Coast Guard Base Detachment Saint Louis, Missouri, is a recognized
leader. She exhibits immense dedication to duty and encourages ongoing
professional development for those with whom she serves. As the unit's
Leadership and Diversity Council (LDAC) Chairperson, Petty Officer Farina
brings a unique perspective on education and diversity, often demonstrated
as she conducts training and leads discussions related to diversity and
leadership. Additionally, her strong commitment to community volunteerism led
to her appointment as the 2016 Combined Federal Campaign Loan Executive.
While serving in this position, she collected more than $30,000 in charitable
contributions and dedicated over 105 hours as an interpreter for Casa De Salud,
a non-profit healthcare clinic. Her efforts ensured patient concerns were
translated to medical providers, significantly improving health outcomes for
Hispanic immigrants.
3. I commend YN1 Farina for her outstanding contributions, achievements, and
exemplary service. She was officially recognized and honored at the
14th Annual National Latina Symposium luncheon on Friday, September 15, 2017
at the Marriott Marquis Washington, DC.
4. Civil Rights programs help maximize the Coast Guard's overall mission
effectiveness by fostering a discrimination free environment through
recognition of members' accomplishments and contributions to civil rights,
