Portland Coast Guard holding meeting on new towing vessel inspection regulations

PORTLAND, Ore. — Coast Guard Marine Safety Unit Portland will be hosting a towing vessel industry outreach meeting to discuss Subchapter M regulatory compliance at their Swan Island location on Thursday.

The meeting, which is open for all interested industry representatives, will address the Certificate of Inspection implementation process that is set to begin nationwide in July 2018.

There are two compliance options available for applicable towing vessels to meet the inspected towing vessel regulatory requirements (Code of Federal Regulations Chapter 46, Subchapter M). The speakers will discuss these options along with the tools, resources, and policies available to facilitate compliance.

A panel of Coast Guard representatives from MSU Portland, 13th District, Pacific Area, Headquarters, and the Towing Vessel National Center of Expertise will be in attendance to answer questions. These subject matter experts are making themselves available to answer the questions of industry members and interested parties with direct and peripheral interest.

This meeting in Portland will be the second in a series of meetings on the West Coast. The full schedule is as follows:

Seattle, WA - Sept. 12
Portland, OR - Sept. 14
Alameda, CA - Sept. 19
Long Beach, CA - Sept. 21

Please contact MSU Portland at 503-240-9374 for additional information.
