SUBJ: RESERVE RETIREMENT AWAITING PAY (RET-2) REQUESTS
A. Reserve Policy Manual, COMDTINST M1001.28C, Art. 8.S.
1. Effective 1 October 2017, IAW REF A reserve retirement (RET-2) request
must be received by RPM no later than 100 days before the requested date.
Requests submitted with less than 100 days before requested retirement date
will be returned to the submitting unit without action.
2. For reservists with a mandatory date to leave an active status
(Over 30 years, Reserve High Year Tenure (R-HYT), selection and retention
board actions, etc.) Submission of a timely retirement request is essential
to avoid being assigned into the Standby Reserve, Inactive Status List (ISL).
Placement into the ISL will suspend a reservist's eligibility for
TRICARE and may also impact access to Post 9/11 G.I. Bill benefits.
3. RET-2 transfers only occur on the 1st of the month. For reservists
with a mandatory date to leave an active status other than the
final day of the month who have met submission criteria in REF A, a
grace-period will be established to allow the member to
remain in an active status until the 1st day of the following month.
4. Reservists will not be allowed to drill or accept any orders during this
grace-period without prior RPM approval.
