CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Coast Guard captain of the port, Capt. Tony Hahn, continues to open waterways within the COTP zone, Sept. 2, 2017.
The Calhoun Port Authority/Matagorda Ship Channel is now open with the following restrictions:
• All vessels are restricted to a draft not to exceed 30 feet, and are to coordinate closely with the Matagorda Bay Pilots to avoid, if possible, any meeting or overtaking situations.
• All foreign registered vessels 100 gross registered tons or larger, all domestic tank vessels 10,000 gross registered tons or larger, and all domestic non-tank vessels 1,600 gross registered tons or larger must:
1. Conduct one-way transits only.
2. Transit during daylight hours only.
Ships continue to transit in and out of the Port of Corpus Christi, Sept. 2, 2017, after being reopened with restrictions as a result of Hurricane Harvey due to obstructions to the waterway.
Commercial shipping in the Port of Corpus Christi was resumed with restrictions which can be found in a previous press release here.
The Coast Guard is essential to a Global Supply Chain system that supports innovation and prosperity by ensuring the secure and reliable movement of goods within our domestic borders and around the world.
"Continuing to safely open the waterways demonstrates our resiliancy and is essential to recovering from Hurricane Harvey," said Capt. Jason Smith, captain of the port and deputy incident commander of the unified command in Corpus Christi. "Ensuring our ports are operational is vital to maintaining the continuity of domestic and international maritime trade."
