UPDATE: Coast Guard in Port Arthur continue to respond, rescue

PORT ARTHUR, TEXAS — The Coast Guard, federal, state and local agencies continue to respond to the greater Port Arthur area Saturday.

Currently, there are more than 200 Coast Guard personnel responding in the Port Arthur and Beaumont area. There are 27 shallow-draft vessels, which are part of the Coast Guard Flood Punt Teams, capable of operating in flooded urban areas.

Coast Guard personnel in Port Arthur have rescued more than 490 people and 155 pets in the past 24-hours.

If you are in a flooding situation, stay calm, do not panic and get to high ground immediately.

Do not call for rescue if you are not in a life-threatening situation. Rescue teams are prioritizing rescues by urgency. We are not able to facilitate requests for assistance on social media.
