Update: Coast Guard rescues 6 people in distress

HOUSTON – The Coast Guard rescued six people in distress at their residence near Aransas Pass, Texas, Saturday.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Corpus Christi received a report at 7 p.m. of six people: three children, their two parents and an elderly woman reportedly in need of oxygen, in need of assistance.

A Coast Guard Aviation Training Center Mobile, Alabama, MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter aircrew launched at 6:44 p.m. and landed approximately one-half mile from the residence and took the family and carried the woman in a litter back to the Jayhawk. The aircrew transferred the family to Spohn Memorial Hospital in Corpus Christi, Texas.

The elderly woman was in stable condition and the children and their parents had no reported injuries.

“Coast Guard crews showed initiative and bias for action in this unique case to assist a family in need,” said Capt. Tony Hahn, commander, Sector Corpus Christi.
