Coast Guard assists 5 boaters after vessel capsizes near Port Aransas, Texas

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A Sector/Air Station Corpus Christi MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew assisted five boaters after their vessel capsized Friday morning, approximately 800 feet from San Jose Island.

At 9:10 a.m., Sector/Air Station Corpus Christi watchstanders received notification from the Port Aransas Police Department that a 21-foot pleasure craft had capsized, leaving the five people on board in the water without life jackets.

“Life jackets are imperative to boater safety,” said Petty Officer 1st Class Andrew Stutler, a Sector/Air Station Corpus Christi watchstander. “The Coast Guard always recommends the use of life jackets while on the water.”

A Station Port Aransas boat crew and Sector/Air Station Corpus Christi helicopter crew were launched and arrived on scene at approximately 9:40 a.m. to find all five boaters had made it to shore.

The MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew landed on San Jose Island and transported the individuals to awaiting emergency medical services personnel at Mustang Beach Airport.

All were reported to be in stable condition.
