Coast Guard medevacs man from cruise ship 70 miles east of Atlantic City, NJ
PORTSMOUTH, Va.- The Coast Guard medevaced a man from a cruise ship 70 miles east of Atlantic City, New Jersey, Sunday.
Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector New York were notified at about 11:15 p.m. of an 82-year-old man suffering from abdominal pains.
An MH-65 Dolphin aircrew from Air Station Atlantic City launched to respond.
The aircrew arrived on scene and hoisted the man from the cruise ship Anthem of the Seas at approximately 1:45 a.m.
The man was transported to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center for further medical assistance.
“The professionalism exhibited by the crew of the Anthem of the Seas ensured that the Coast Guard was adequately informed of a serious medical situation,” said Tom Botzenhart, a search-and-rescue coordinator at the Coast Guard’s Fifth District Command Center. “The crew altered the course of the cruise ship inland, which allowed for our aircrew to arrive on scene in a timely manner and transport the man to proper medical care.”
