Coast Guard rescues 2 people near Venice, Louisiana
NEW ORLEANS – The Coast Guard rescued two people from a disabled vessel in Brenton Sound at the mouth of the Mississippi River Gulf Outlet Canal, Sunday.
Coast Guard District Eight received a report at 3:34 p.m. of two people on a 19-foot disabled fishing vessel in Brenton Sound. One of the boaters was diabetic, and both boaters’ cell phones were low on battery power.
Coast Guard Sector New Orleans watchstanders launched a Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans MH-65 Dolphin Helicopter aircrew and a Coast Guard Station New Orleans 29-foot Response Boat-Small crew.
The aircrew arrived on scene and hoisted the two people and transferred them to the New Orleans Lakefront Airport where they were met by personnel from Station New Orleans.
The vessel remains anchored in a spoil bank south of the jetty. The owner will coordinate salvage.
