UPDATE: Coast Guard concludes search for missing person near West Ship Island
NEW ORLEANS – The Coast Guard concluded the search for a missing person near West Ship Island near Gulfport, Mississippi, Wednesday.
The Mississippi Department of Marine Resources located the body of the missing person and transported the body to a nearby coroner’s office.
Coast Guard Station Gulfport watchstanders received a notification at 6:48 a.m. from the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources of an unmanned vessel that had ran ashore near Gulfport Harbor with an active motor, Tuesday.
Involved in the search was:
- Coast Guard Station Gulfport 45-foot Response Boat-Small boat crew
- Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew
- Coast Guard Cutter Brant
- Mississippi Department of Marine Resources
- Harrison County Sheriff’s office
