SAN FRANCISCO — A Coast Guard aircrew rescued three people from the water near Menlo Park after their 12-foot boat capsized Saturday evening.

A Coast Guard Air Station San Francisco MH-65 Dolphin aircrew launched to assist after Coast Guard Sector San Francisco watchstanders received a 911-relay call around 6:20 p.m., from a kayaker who reportedly saw three people clinging to the hull of a capsized boat.

The kayaker remained on scene until the aircrew arrived around 7 p.m., and hoisted the three people into the helicopter. The Dolphin crew transferred the boaters to Menlo Park Fire District responders waiting ashore, who then transported them to Stanford Medical Center for evaluation.

All three boaters were reportedly wearing life jackets and there were no reported injuries.

"Due to the remote location of the incident and the time it took for resources to arrive on scene, life jackets were the key to the survival of the individuals in the water and aided in the success of the rescue," said Joseph Ford, a Sector San Francisco command duty officer.
