BOSTON — The Coast Guard and a good Samaritan rescued a boater after his catamaran capsized near Sankaty Head Lighthouse off Nantucket.
An officer from Massachusetts Marine Environmental Police called watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Southeastern New England at about 3:20 p.m. reporting the vessel capsizing and one person in the water.
Coast Guard Station Brant Point launched a 47-foot Motor Lifeboat crew. When they arrived on scene a good Samaritan had picked up the boater from the water. The boater was transferred to the Coast Guard vessel and brought back to the station.
The owner of the 15-foot catamaran was wearing a life jacket, and there were no reported injuries.
The sailboat is still adrift near Sankaty Head Lighthouse, and Coast Guard Sector Southeastern New England has issued a notice to mariners warning them of the hazard.
