U.S. Coast Guard Senior Chief Petty Officer retires following 26 years service

CLEVELAND — Senior Chief Petty Officer Jason R. Baker retired from the United States Coast Guard after over 26 years of distinguished service Friday.

Baker enlisted in the United States Coast Guard and reported to basic training in Cape May, New Jersey April 16, 1991.  

Following basic training, Baker attended radioman a-school in Petaluma, California, in 1992. The radioman rating transitioned to the telecommunications specialist rating on June 1, 1994, then became operations specialist in 2003.

With a career that has emphasized operational tours of duty with an emphasis on search and rescue, counter narcotics, and counterterrorism, he has served aboard two Coast Guard cutters, at Group Charleston, at the Aviation Training Center in Mobile, Alabama, and on the Maritime Security Response Team based out of Chesapeake, Virginia.  Baker has conducted multiple, international operations on five continents and three oceans.

Baker is a native of Charleston and intends to spend his retirement farming and enjoying more quality time with his wife, Keri, and their family in South Alabama.
