CLEARWATER, Fla. — Coast Guard crews rescued eight people Thursday after a charter dive boat took on water 12 miles west of Anclote.

At 11:50 a.m. watchstanders from Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg received a report from a crewmember aboard the charter dive boat, Narcosis, via VHF-FM marine band radio channel 16, stating the boat was taking on water with eight people aboard and they were in need of emergency assistance.

An MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew from Air Station Clearwater was diverted, and a 45-foot Response Boat-Medium boatcrew from Station Sand Key was launched.

Coast Guard crews transferred two dewatering pumps and rescue personnel to the Narcosis and began dewatering operations. After the flooding was under control, the RB-M crew escorted the Narcosis to Tarpon Springs City Marina.

There were no reported injuries.

"It was a large team effort amongst all Coast Guard crews today resulting in a safe outcome," said Petty Officer 3rd Class Chevy L. Sheffield, officer of the day at Station Sand Key.
