Waterway Status - Fireworks Displays within the COTP New Orleans Zone July 1 through July 14, 2017

The U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) Captain of the Port New Orleans, under the authority of the Ports and Waterways Safety Act, has established multiple safety zones within the Captain of the Port New Orleans area of responsibility. These safety zones are needed to protect persons and vessels from the potential safety hazards associated with waterborne activities and fireworks displays. Below is a list of dates and times established safety zones will be enforced:

1. Mandeville Lakefront Fireworks
a. Date and time: July 1, 2017 from 8:45 p.m. until 9:45 p.m.
b. Location: Lake Pontchartrain, 600 feet in all directions from 30-21-12.0N 090-04-28.9W
c. Designated representative: USCG Station New Orleans, VHF-FM Channel 16

2. L'Auberge Casino Fireworks
a. Date and time: July 2, 2017 from 8:45 p.m. until 9:45 p.m.
b. Location: Lower Mississippi River MM 216.5 to 217.5 AHP, Baton Rouge, LA
c. Designated representative: USCG Marine Safety Unit Baton Rouge, VHF-FM Channel 16

3. St. John the Baptist Parish July 4th Celebration Fireworks
a. Date and time: July 3, 2017 from 8:40 p.m. until 9:40 p.m.
b. Location: Lower Mississippi River Mile Marker (MM) 137.5 to MM 138.5 above Head of Passes (AHP), Reserve, LA
c. Designated representative: Port of South Louisiana, VHF-FM Channels 16 or 67, or phone (985) 536-1118

4. Go 4th on the River
a. Date and time: July 4, 2017 from 8:30 p.m. until 9:30 p.m.
b. Location: Lower Mississippi River MM 94.3 to MM 95.3 AHP, New Orleans, LA
c. Designated representative: USCG Auxiliary, MV PROTECTOR, VHF-FM Channel 16

5. Madisonville Old Fashion 4th of July
a) Date and time: July 4, 2017 from 8:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.
b) Location: Tchefuncte River, one-half mile around 30-24-11.63N 090-09-17.39W
c) Designated Representative: USCG Auxiliary, VHF-FM Channel 16

6. Team Beachbody Coach Summit Fireworks
a. Date and time: July 14, 2017 from 10:30 p.m. until11:15 p.m.
b. Location: Lower Mississippi River MM 95.7 to MM 96.7 AHP, New Orleans, LA
c. Designated representative: USCG Auxiliary, MV PROTECTOR, VHF-FM Channel 16

All vessels are prohibited from entering these safety zones unless they have been granted permission by the Captain of the Port New Orleans or designated representative. The Captain of the Port's designated representative for each safety zone is listed above. All vessels requesting permission to enter or transit through this safety zone are required to contact the designated representative via the contact methods listed above. Each designated representative will evaluate and allow vessels to transit through the safety zone on a case-by-case basis.

Additionally, there will be three fireworks displays launched near water which will have no associated safety zone, as listed below. All mariners are advised to give a wide berth and transit those areas with caution during the scheduled times:

1. Three Rivers July 4th Celebration
a. Date and time: July 2, 2017 from 8:30 p.m. until 9:30 p.m.
b. Location: Tchefuncte River at position 30-22-56.7N 090-09-28.6W

2. St. Charles Parish Fireworks
a. Date and time: July 3, 2017 from 9:00 p.m. until 9:35 p.m.
b. Location: levee along the right descending bank of the Lower Mississippi River at approximate MM 121.5 AHP

3. Treasure Chest Casino Fireworks
a. Date and time: July 4, 2017 from 9:00 p.m. until 9:30 p.m.
b. Location: Treasure Chest Casino, 5050 Williams Blvd, Kenner, LA. 500 feet in all directions from 30-02-32.4N 90-14-28.3W
