UPDATE: Coast Guard, partner agencies search for 2 missing jet-skiers near Freeport, NY

NEW YORK - The Coast Guard confirmed Sunday morning the two missing jet-skiers missing near Freeport, New York, were found safe.

Missing were Juan Uolla, 27, and Yalet Uolla, 21.

The individuals left a dock near Cow Meadow Park around 7:30 p.m.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Station Jones Beach were notified by a concerned family member at approximately 10:00 p.m. that they were overdue.

Sector Long Island Sound command center issued a urgent marine information broadcast and notified local partner agencies who also joined in on the search effort.

The missing individuals were scheduled to be underway for 30 minutes. The jet-ski capsized near Meadowbrook Bridge and they were unable to restart it.

After waiting for several hours for help, the individuals swam to shore and hailed a taxi to return to Albany Boat Ramp at approximately 5:00 a.m.

  • Lawrence-Cedarhurst Fire Department
  • Wantagh Fire Department
  • Atlantic Beach Fire Department
  • Nassau County Police Department
The Coast Guard reminds all mariners to have a reliable means of signaling rescuers onboard their vessels in case of emergency. Recommended devices include VHF-FM marine band radios, emergency position indicating radio beacons, and signal flares.
