MEDIA AVAILABILITY: Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod to hold Air Medal ceremony for heroic, lifesaving efforts

 

BOSTON — The Air Medal will be presented to a Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod crewmember for the October 2016 rescue of a 28-year-old man who fell 50 feet while free climbing on the Champlain Mountain Precipice, in Acadia National Park, Bar Harbor, Maine.

Commendation Medals and The Achievement Medal will also be presented to the other Coast Guard aircrew members involved in the rescue. Their heroic efforts undoubtedly saved a climber caught in a truly life-threatening situation.

Who: Representative William Keating (D-MA-9), Rear Adm. Steven Poulin, commander, First Coast Guard District, and Capt. Timothy A. Tobiasz, commander, Air Station Cape Cod, will present Petty Officer 2nd Class Mario Estevane The Air Medal.

Commander Steven F. Jensen and Petty Officer 3rd Class Daniel J. Cote will be presented Commendation Medals, and Lt. Michelle A. Simmons will be presented The Coast Guard Achievement Medal.

What: The Air Medal is awarded to any person who, while serving in any capacity with the Armed Forces of the United States, distinguishes him or herself by heroic or meritorious achievement while participating in aerial flight.

When: Monday, June 19 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.
