Coast Guard rescues 3 near Mare Island Strait Ferry Building

SAN FRANCISCO — The Coast Guard rescued three people in the water near Mare Island Strait Ferry Building Thursday evening.

Coast Guard Sector San Francisco watchstanders received a report at approximately 7 p.m. of three people, two adults and a six-year-old child, in the water after their jet ski overturned. Coast Guard Station Vallejo launched a rescue boatcrew.

After arriving on scene, the rescue boatcrew pulled the three individuals out of the water and then transferred them to Brinkman’s Launch. No injuries were reported.

“Fortunately, all three were wearing life jackets when we arrived on scene,” said Coast Guard Petty Officer 3rd Class Drew Salzborn, crewmember aboard the rescue boat. “Like a seatbelt, a lifejacket can save your life if something unexpected would occur, but neither one will work if not worn. “

The Coast Guard encourages everyone to wear their life jackets while out on the water.

Children under the age of 13 are required to wear life jackets at all times while on the water.
