Coast Guard medevacs fisherman 50-miles off Cape May, N.J.

 

PHILADELPHIA - The Coast Guard medevacced and ill fisherman approximately 50-miles east of Cape May, New Jersey, at about 3 p.m., Thursday.

The Coast Guard was notified by the crew of the fishing vessel Susan Marie that a crewmember reportedly collapsed for unknown reasons at about 2 p.m..

A Coast Guard rescue crew aboard an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City was diverted by watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Delaware Bay to medevac the man.

Crewmembers hoisted the man aboard their helicopter at 3 p.m., and brought him to Atlanticare Regional Medical Center to receive medical attention at 3:29 p.m.

"These fishermen did the right thing by calling for help when they spotted trouble with this person," said Petty Officer 1st Class Alexander Castonguay, a watchstander at Sector Delaware Bay. "The sooner we know about trouble, the sooner we can get help out to the person and get them the medical care they need."
