FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — The crew of Coast Guard Station Fort Lauderdale is scheduled to hold a change of command ceremony Friday in Fort Lauderdale.
Lt. Derek W. Wallin will relieve Lt. Mark R. Ketchum Friday as commanding officer during a change of command ceremony at Coast Guard Station Fort Lauderdale.
Wallin is coming to the station from Coast Guard Headquarters, Office of Boat Forces and is a graduate of Excelsior College, earning an Associate in Science and Bachelor of Science in Public Service/Homeland Security.
Ketchum has served as the commanding officer of the station since July of 2014. He is reporting to Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government as a Master of Public Administration.
The change of command ceremony is a time-honored military tradition. It is a formal ritual conducted before the assembled company of the command. It conveys to officers and enlisted personnel of the cutter that although the authority of command is relinquished by one person and assumed by another, it is still maintained without interruption.
