Coast Guard medevacs man from fishing vessel 80 miles east of Dutch Harbor, Alaska

JUNEAU, Alaska— A Coast Guard Air Station Kodiak MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew deployed on the Coast Guard Cutter Midgett medevaced a 47-year-old man from the fishing vessel Cape Greig after suffering possible seizures in Unimak Pass, 80 miles east of Dutch Harbor, Alaska.

The Dolphin crew hoisted the man and transported him to awaiting EMS personnel in Dutch Harbor. EMS transferred him to the Iliuliuk Family and Health Services Clinic to await a Life Med aircraft crew for transport.

Watchstanders at the 17^th Coast Guard District command center received a medevac request from the Cape Greig crew reporting the man was found unconscious and was experiencing possible seizures. Watchstanders consulted the duty flight surgeon, requested the launch of the Dolphin crew and diverted the Cape Greig toward Dutch Harbor.

“The Coast Guard maintains a year-round cutter presence with a search and rescue-capable MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew aboard in the Bering Sea,” said Chief Warrant Officer Joseph Ayd, a 17^th District command duty officer. “The aircrew’s readiness allowed the man to receive advanced medical care as quickly as possible.”
