Coast Guard medevacs 66-year-old male off cruise ship

NEW ORLEANS – The Coast Guard medevaced a 66-year-old man from the cruise ship Carnival Fantasy approximately 170 nautical miles south of Mobile, Alabama, Wednesday.

Coast Guard Sector Mobile received a report from the Carnival Fantasy of a passenger suffering heart-attack symptoms and requested a medevac.

Watchstanders directed the launch of a Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans MH-65 Dolphin helicopter aircrew and a Coast Guard Aviation Training Center Mobile HC-144 Ocean Sentry fixed-wing aircrew.

The Dolphin helicopter aircrew hoisted the survivor along with the ship’s nurse and transported them to University Medical Center in New Orleans.
