Coast Guard helps medevac man near Beaufort, NC

WILMINGTON, N.C. — The Coast Guard and a Seatow vessel crew medevaced an injured man south of Beaufort, Sunday.

Watchstanders at the Sector North Carolina Command Center in Wilmington received a report at about 1:50 p.m. that a man had cut his foot on an oyster bed on Carrot Island.

A 24-foot Special Purpose Craft-Shallow Water (SPC-SW) crew launched from Station Fort Macon at about 1:58 p.m. A Seatow vessel crew arrived on scene before the Coast Guard.

The Seatow crew transferred the man from the beach to their vessel and brought him to Olde Town Yacht Club on Radio Island where the Coast Guard crew took him aboard the SPC-SW and administered first aid. The Coast Guard took the man to Portside Marina in Morehead City and placed him in the care of awaiting Carteret County EMS.

"We thank the Seatow crew for getting there so fast and helping this man," said Petty Officer Third Class Cameron Haywood, coxswain for the case. "We were glad to work as a team to get this man to Carteret County EMS so he could get the treatment he needed."
