Coast Guard rescues 4 near Beaufort, NC

 

 

WILMINGTON, N.C. — The Coast Guard rescued four people after their vessel began taking on water, leaving them stranded near Beaufort, Saturday.

Watchstanders at the Sector North Carolina Command Center in Wilmington received a report at about 3:45 p.m. from TowboatUS that a recreational boat with three adults and an infant on board was taking on water south of Carrot Island.

A 24-foot Special Purpose Craft-Shallow Water (SPC-SW) crew launched from Station Fort Macon at about 4:11 p.m. The crew arrived on scene at 4:38 p.m. to find the flooded vessel beached on the south side of Bird Shoal. A TowboatUS crew was working to dewater the vessel.

The Coast Guard crew helped refloat the vessel and took aboard the three adults and infant. They were transported to Town Creek Marina in Beaufort. 

The TowboatUS crew brought the vessel back to shore.

"We were glad to get there quickly and bring these folks to shore safe," said Petty Officer 2nd Class Lesandro Guzman, coxswain for the case. "We thank TowboatUS for their swift response and cooperation on this case."
