NEW YORK – The crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Hamilton welcomed aboard two members of leadership today as part of their Fleet Week New York festivities.
Department of Homeland Security Secretary John F. Kelley and Vice Adm. Charles W. Ray, deputy commandant for Coast Guard Operations, both visited the Hamilton today as part of Fleet Week New York.
During his visit Secretary Kelley took the opportunity to talk with Hamilton’s crew about their recent counter drug deployment to the Eastern Pacific where they, along with our international partners, stopped more than 37,000 pounds of cocaine worth more than $498 million in 20 different interdictions from entering the United States. He also reiterated to the crew that the Coast Guard as a whole fills a vital role in the country’s national and maritime safety and security.
Vice Adm. Ray presented the crew with a unit commendation for all of the hard work they have achieved in the past year and two very successful deployments.
National Security Cutters, like the Hamilton, are responsible for interdicting more than 266 pounds of cocaine worth an estimated $3.5 billion.
Hamilton’s crew is participating in Fleet Week New York through May 29, and is open to the public for tours from 8 a.m., to 5 p.m. at Pier 92.
