NEW ORLEANS - Media are invited to attend National Safe Boating Week events from May 20 to May 26.

National Safe Boating Week is an annual observance held from May 20 to May 26sponsored by the National Safe Boating Council, and endorsed and promoted by the U.S. Coast Guard.

National Safe Boating Week is the launch of the 2017 North American Safe Boating Campaign. The campaign promotes safe and responsible boating and the value of voluntary, consistent life jacket wear by recreational boaters.

As part of National Safe Boating Week, the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary will hold several voluntary vessel safety check events to ensure vessels meet the minimum safety standards and that in an emergency, you will have the necessary equipment to save lives and request help.

For more information on boating safety, please visit the U.S. Coast Guard's Boating Safety Division at USCGBoating.org; or the National Safe Boating Council at SafeBoatingCouncil.org.

The U. S. Coast Guard has a mobile app which provides the essential services and information most commonly requested by boaters. For more information, visit USCG.mil/mobile.

To RSVP, please call Lt. Matt Considine at (314) 269-2541
