Coast Guard rescues 3 boaters 30 miles southeast of Port Royal Sound
CHARLESTON, S.C. — The Coast Guard rescued three boaters Friday after their boat sank approximately 30 miles southeast of Port Royal Sound.
Coast Guard Sector Charleston Command Center watch standers were notified at 7:38 a.m. via VHF Channel 16 by the crew of the 45-foot vessel Hangem High, stating they were taking on water.
A Coast Guard MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Facility Charleston and a Coast Guard Station Charleston 45-foot Response Boat – Medium boatcrew launched at approximately 8:25 a.m. to assist.
The helicopter crew arrived on scene at 8:34 a.m. The vessel lost power and began to sink at 9:15 a.m. The helicopter crew lowered a rescue swimmer to assist the crew of the vessel in entering a life raft.
The RB-M crew arrived on scene at 9:35 a.m., embarked the three crew members and the rescue swimmer, and transported them to Station Charleston.
There were no reported injuries.
