Coast Guard assists 5 mariners on vessel taking on water

BALTIMORE — The Coast Guard assisted five mariners after their boat began taking on water near the mouth of the Severn River in Annapolis, Thursday.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Maryland-National Capital Region received a report from a mariner aboard the 43-foot vessel stating it was taking on water.

Sector Maryland-NCR issued an urgent marine information broadcast and launched a 45-foot Response Boat-Medium boatcrew from Coast Guard Station Annapolis. Coast Guard Cutter Lawrence Lawson also launched a boatcrew on a cutter boat to assist.

Once on scene, the 45-foot RB-M crew assisted the mariners with dewatering efforts with a portable dewatering pump.

The vessel was safely escorted to Back Creek Marina.

No injuries were reported.
