MEDIA ADVISORY: New Haven Coast Guard to Host Open House Event
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Coast Guard Sector Long Island Sound will be hosting their annual open house event Saturday, at the Coast Guard base in New Haven.
The public is invited to attend a free event that includes a tour of various Coast Guard and local partner agency’s assets, a flare demonstration and several interactive booths.
Local police and fire departments attending include the West Shore Fire Department’s amphibious vessel to give a demonstration.
In preparation for National Safe Boating Week, which runs from May 20th to May 26th, Coast Guard Auxiliary and New Haven Power Squadrons will be available to discuss boating safety and paddle smart activities.
Environmental organizations, such as the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, will be there to discuss issues that affect Long Island Sound.
This is a great opportunity for the public to ask questions and learn about our various missions within the Connecticut and Long Island Sound area. There will be plenty of information to help educate the public on how to stay safe on the water this summer.
Media who are interested in attending should contact Lt. Matthew Richards at 203-410-2193.
