Coast Guard, local agencies, good samaritan assist vessel taking on water
NEW ORLEANS – The Coast Guard, good Samaritan, and local agencies assisted a vessel taking on water near Vermilion Bay, Louisiana, Thursday.
Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector New Orleans received distress calls from a vessel taking on water at approximately 6:00 p.m.
Sector New Orleans launched an Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans MH-65 Dolphin Helicopter aircew to search for the vessel.
Vermillion Perish Sheriff’s Office (VPSO) informed Sector New Orleans that three people aboard the vessel reported that they were no longer taking on water but their vessel was disabled.
VPSO launched a surface asset and Air Station New Orleans arrived on scene to confirm that the vessel was no longer in distress.
VPSO transferred two people to Intracostal City and a good Samaritan arrived on scene and towed the vessel to a camp in the vicinity of Four Mile Canal.
