Coast Guard, good Samaritan assist disabled vessel
NEW ORLEANS – The Coast Guard and a good Samaritan assisted a disabled vessel approximately 12 nautical miles South of Port Fourchon, Louisiana, Thursday.
Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector New Orleans received a distress signal from the owner of a 27-foot pleasure craft with four people aboard at approximately 6:15 p.m.
Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans launched an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter aircrew to locate the vessel and establish communications with them.
The aircrew discovered the disabled vessel tied to a rig with no medical concerns for the people aboard.
The Sophia Rose, a good Samaritan vessel, removed the four people, took them aboard, and transferred them to a manned platform.
The vessel owner is arranging to retrieve the four people and the pleasure craft.
