Coast Guard, local responders assess submerged land lease site near Goble, Oregon

 Representatives from the Coast Guard Pacific Strike Team, from Novato, Calif., Coast Guard Marine Environmental Detachment Portland, Oregon Department of Environmental Quality and the Oregon National Response Corporation conduct a site assessment and hazard categorization at a submerged land lease site near Goble, Ore., May 9, 2017. A Unified Command consisting of the Coast Guard, DEQ and Oregon Department of State Lands are preparing to remove all oil and hazardous materials from the site to mitigate pollution threats to the sensitive environment of the Columbia River.

The Pacific Strike Team is one of three regionally-based teams that make up the National Strike Force, which is comprised of a highly trained cadre of Coast Guard professionals who rapidly deploy to prevent or clean up hazardous material discharges on behalf of the American public.
