SAN FRANCISCO — The righting operation, or parbuckle, of the Vengeance barge, which capsized in the San Francisco Bay April 7, is scheduled to be conducted early Sunday morning.
The Vengeance barge will not be visible above water during the operation. The parbuckle is the first of a two-phase approach to complete the disposition of the Vengeance barge, with the second phase beginning with an evaluation after the parbuckle. The plan for the second phase may take several weeks to develop and is expected to involve refloating and towing the barge to a facility for fuel removal.
Mariners are requested to abide by the safety zone, which was established April 7 and will remain in effect until the disposition of the Vengeance, and monitor local media channels as the safety zone is subject to change. Marine information broadcasts to local mariners will continue while the safety zone is in effect.
