Coast Guard rescues 2 near Reef Point, NC

ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. — The U.S. Coast Guard rescued two people aboard a sailboat near Reef Point, Saturday.

Sector North Carolina watchstanders in Wilmington received notification that the 40-foot sailboat The Eleventh Hour had ran aground near Reef Point and was taking on water with two people aboard.

The Coast Guard responded by sending a 29-foot Rescue Boat-Small crew from Station Elizabeth City. The boat crew transferred the two people and brought them to New Hope Boat Ramp in Apex.

No injuries or pollution were reported. TowBoatUS is en route to tow the sailboat.

“With the sailboat being so close, we were able to quickly respond and rescue the two people and get them to safety,” said Petty Officer 3rd Class Dustin A. Belcher, crew member for the case.
