JUNEAU, Alaska  — The Coast Guard and Alaska State Troopers assisted three men in a disabled 24-foot fishing boat near Hooper Bay, Saturday evening.

An Air Station Kodiak HC-130 Hercules airplane crew located the boat and remained on scene until the Alaska State Troopers arrived to provide fuel and escort them into port.

Watchstanders at the 17th Coast Guard District command center received a report from the Alaska State Troopers that the vessel ran out of gas Friday evening but they were unable to locate the vessel to provide assistance. It was reported that the vessel was using a cell phone to call for assistance. Watchstanders requested the launch of the Hercules.

"Working alongside the Alaska State Troopers we were able to quickly locate this boat and provide them with assistance," said Chief Warrant Officer Joseph Ayd, command duty officer for the 17th District command center. "This case highlights the importance of carrying multiple means of communication devices while on the water."

The weather on scene was 17-mph winds and 1-foot seas.
