US Coast Guard Headquarters to hold active shooter response exercise at St. Elizabeths Campus
WASHINGTON -- The U.S. Coast Guard is scheduled to conduct an active shooter response exercise Thursday at U.S. Coast Guard Headquarters at the Department of Homeland Security's St. Elizabeths Campus.
The training is being conducted to prepare Headquarters personnel to effectively respond to the threat of an active shooter. The exercise is not open to the public or the media. Local law enforcement and emergency call centers have been notified about the exercise, but the exercise will not involve responses from emergency services organizations from outside the St. Elizabeths Campus.
Those nearby may hear emergency announcements over the campus public address system and may notice an increased presence of Federal Protective Service personnel in the St. Elizabeths Campus area, which overlooks I-295 and Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling.
