Coast Guard assists Okaloosa Sheriffs with people in the water

NEW ORLEANS – The Coast Guard assisted Okaloosa Sheriff’s Department in the rescue of four people in the water after their vessel began taking on water near East Pass, Florida, Saturday.

Coast Guard Sector Mobile watchstanders received a notification at 9:47 a.m. about a vessel taking on water and four people in the water.

Watchstanders launched a Coast Guard Station Destin 45-foot Response Boat-Medium boatcrew at 9:57 a.m. and diverted a Coast Guard Air Station MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew at 10:00 a.m.

An Okaloosa County Sheriff’s boatcrew arrived on scene at 10:03 a.m. and put the damaged vessel in tow. The Station Destin boatcrew arrived at 10:22 a.m. and shadowed the Sheriff’s tow for safety.

Two passengers were taken to Harbor Walk Marina by a good Samaritan while the other two stayed with the Sheriff’s boatcrew to Destin Marina in Destin, Florida, at 11:09 a.m.

There were no reported injuries.
