Coast Guard rescues 2 boaters near New Smyrna Beach
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Coast Guard rescued two boaters Tuesday after their vessel struck a sandbar near New Smyrna Beach.
Coast Guard Sector Jacksonville Command Center watchstanders were notified at 5:51 p.m. by Coast Guard Station Ponce De Leon stating they heard over a police scanner a vessel had run aground.
A Station Ponce De Leon 29-foot Rescue Boat boatcrew launched at 6:05 p.m. Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation and Edgewater Police Department also responded.
The boatcrew arrived on scene and transported the two boaters to JB's Fish Camp where EMS were waiting.
Only minor injuries were reported.
Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation towed the vessel to the owner's home and will be conducting an investigation.
