Coast Guard searching for missing swimmer off Mission Beach

SAN DIEGO — The Coast Guard continues to search for a missing 17-year-old male Monday morning after he went missing in the waters off Mission Beach, in San Diego, Sunday evening. 

At approximately 7:30 p.m. Sunday, watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector San Diego's Joint Harbor Operations Center were notified that the San Diego Life Guards were searching for a missing swimmer, after which the Coast Guard launched assets to assist in the search. 

Coast Guard Cutter Petrel, an 87-foot patrol boat homeported in San Diego, searched throughout the night Sunday and remains on scene Monday morning to continue searching. 

A Coast Guard Station San Diego 45-foot Response Boat Medium crew also assisted in the search Sunday night.

A Coast Guard Sector San Diego MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew searched Sunday night and a second helicopter crew will conduct a first-light search Monday morning.
