WILMINGTON, N.C. -- The Coast Guard assisted one man aboard a grounded sailboat near Morehead City, North Carolina, Tuesday.
A 29-foot Response Boat-Small crew from Coast Guard Station Fort Macon in Atlantic Beach, North Carolina, was patrolling the area and saw the 14-foot sailboat aground in Chimney Island Cut.
The 62-year-old man aboard the sailboat waved down the crew and requested assistance.
The RBS crew put the sailboat in a stern tow and brought the vessel to Town Creek Marina in Beaufort, North Carolina, by 7:35 p.m.
“It is imperative for all mariners to stay aware of weather conditions like strong winds before going out on the water,” said Coast Guard Petty Officer 1st Class Adam Sansoucie, operations unit controller for the case. “The Coast Guard routinely broadcasts special marine warnings and advisories on Marine VHF channels 16 and 22A.”
