SUBJ:      SOLICITATION FOR THE USCG 2017 NATIONAL SCOUT JAMBOREE (NSJ) TASK FORCE -004/17

  1. ALCOAST 102/17 was recently issued to solicit support for the U.S. Coast Guard's 2017 National Scout Jamboree (NSJ) Task Force (please see the full message at http://www.uscg.mil/announcements/). The 2017 NSJ will be held at the Bechtel Summit Reserve, Beckley, West Virginia, from 17-29 July 2017.  It will bring together Boy Scouts, co-ed contingents of Venturers and Sea Scouts, and their adult leaders for training and unique outdoor adventures and experiences.  The total number of scouts attending is expected to exceed 40,000 with more than 40,000 additional visitors.  This high visibility event is a prime opportunity for the Coast Guard to assist an organization that teaches positive values to America's youth, while reaching out to an ideal candidate pool for future CG personnel.  Rear Admiral Dan Abel, the Coast Guard Flag sponsor, has been appointed by the Vice Commandant to coordinate the Coast Guard's support of this event.

  2. Task force members will be selected from Coast Guard active duty, reserve, Auxiliary, civilian and retired personnel.

  3.  Auxiliarists interested in helping support this national event by serving as members of the NSJ Task Force are strongly encouraged to read ALCOAST 102/17 in its entirety. Subsequent interest and questions should then be directed to the Coast Guard Auxiliary 2017 NSJ Task Force coordinator, Auxiliarist Bill Reisa, National Branch Chief, Youth Partners (BC-BLY) at william.reisa@cgauxnet.us / (317) 887-3236 or (317) 509-2398.  Applications for assignment must be received by Auxiliarist Reisa no later than Friday, May 12, in order to meet the Task Force application deadline.

  4. The purpose of this list is to keep Auxiliarists as well as all other interested parties abreast of current developments, policies, manuals, etc. All information contained herein and linked is OFFICIAL policy and Information.
