Coast Guard assists local agencies in arrest of Florida man

NEW ORLEANS- The Coast Guard assisted local agencies in the arrest a man near Destin, Florida, Wednesday.

Coast Guard Sector Mobile Command Center received a report of a 49-ft sailing vessel blocking Destin Pass. Upon investigation, Sector Mobile watchstanders found that one person aboard the vessel had an active warrant out for his arrest in Lee County, Florida.

Coast Guard Station Destin escorted a deputy sheriff from Okaloosa County to take custody of the individual, for transport to Lee County for prosecution.

The Coast Guard removed the vessel from the channel, and is working with the family of the individual to ensure that the sailing vessel is appropriately salvaged.
