Coast Guard medevacs man near Oak Island, NC

 

WILMINGTON, N.C. — The Coast Guard medevaced an injured man from a tug boat near Oak Island Thursday.

 

Watchstanders in the Coast Guard Sector North Carolina Command Center in Wilmington received a call from the tug Brooklyn at about 2:50 p.m., reporting a 57-year-old crew member had sustained injuries to his hand.

A 47-foot Motor Lifeboat (MLB) crew launched from Station Oak Island and arrived on scene with the tug near the entrance to the Cape Fear River. The man was taken aboard the MLB and transported to Deep Point Marina in Southport where he was placed in the care of awaiting local EMS.

"We were happy to be able to get this man to the medical care he needed in a timely manner," said Petty Officer 3rd Class Michael Roberts, a boatswain's mate at the station. "We routinely coordinate with local EMS in cases like this to help provide the most efficient care possible."
