On August 20, 2012 CBP announced the expansion of the ocean export manifest DIS pilot. [Reference: CSMS# 12-000320]

Technical requirements for filing ocean export manifest via DIS were issued on August 21, 2012 [Reference CSMS# 12-000327]

The ports within the following Field Offices will be accepting DIS export manifests in phases as follows:

August 20, 2012 Tampa, Miami, New Orleans, Houston, Laredo, San Juan

September 4, 2012 Baltimore, New York, Boston, Detroit, Buffalo, and Chicago

September 17, 2012 San Diego, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Portland, and Seattle, including Alaska and Hawaii

There are currently 17 carriers submitting export manifest through the DIS. Over 7,000 manifests have been filed via DIS to date. The documents submitted via DIS allow CBP the ability to review the manifest electronically and make more timely determinations on the status of the manifest.

CBP is strongly encouraging all ocean carriers to begin using DIS to file their manifests electronically and reduce the number of paper filers. CBP believes this will result in a significant cost savings for ocean carriers as well as speed up the review and processing of ocean manifests.
