Subject: CARGO THEFT ON THE RISE DURING THE HOLIDAYS
Cargo theft continues to be on the rise, particularly around the holidays. U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) would like to remind the local trade community of the increasing threat and advise all Customs Bonded Warehouses (CBW) to increase their security postures and remain hypervigilant in order to prevent the loss of bonded freight and general cargo.
As a reminder, CBW operators are responsible for the safeguard and security of the bonded facility and bonded merchandise as prescribed under 19 CFR §19.4(b). In the case of an unauthorized access or “breach” of a Customs Bonded Warehouse or facility and/or theft of merchandise under the custody of a customs bond, the CBW operator is required to immediately notify CBP in addition to the local Law Enforcement authorities. Below is the list of the main points of contact for the Area Port of Dallas, Trade/Cargo Operations management team, to be used in the unfortunate event that you need to report a theft of bonded freight or unauthorized access of a Customs Bonded Warehouse.
