CSMS # 54090056 - CBP Publishes Federal Register Notice and Information Notice for Vessel Entrance and Clearance System (VECS) Automation Test.

On November 21, 2022, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) published Federal Register Notice (FRN) Document Number 2022-25284 titled Vessel Entrance and Clearance Automation Test. The FRN announced that CBP will conduct the Vessel Entrance and Clearance Automation Test and is linked here: https://www.govinfo.gov/content/pkg/FR-2022-11-21/pdf/2022-25284.pdf

On November 22, 2022, CBP published an information notice explaining the impact of the VECS test on users of the Automated Commercial Environment (ACE). The information notice is linked here: https://www.cbp.gov/document/guidance/vessel-entrance-and-clearance-system-vecs-trade-information-notice

The VECS test will roll out to individual maritime ports successively over two years, beginning with Gulfport, MS on December 19, 2022. As ports are added to the pilot, CBP will work with local Field Offices and Ports to coordinate training for both vessel agents and CBP field personnel.

The VECS process will be a complete digitization and automation of the Entrance and Clearance process. For more information on VECS, please visit the VECS Resource Page on CBP.gov.
