CSMS# 12-000023 - ACE/Microsoft Security Patch Removal

As reported in CSMS 12-000007, issued 1/13/2012, the recently released Microsoft Internet Explorer version 8 security patch KB2585542 is not compatible with the current ACE application and has resulted in slow Portal performance. We are investigating the conflict and hope to resolve the issue as quickly as possible. An interim solution for your consideration and determination, is the removal of the security patch. If this temporary solution is selected, please work with your local IT resources to perform this removal. Should you determine to effectuate the removal, the following steps have been used to back out the Microsoft Internet Explorer version 8 security patch KB2585542. Please note, these steps are not to be considered official guidance by Microsoft and are to be used at your discretion.



For Windows XP:



Click on Start



When the pop-up menu appears, click on “Control Panel” to the right.



On the next window double click on “Add/Remove Programs”.



Make sure you check off the “Show Updates” box in the upper right corner.



After the programs and updates are all visible, sort the list by date, also in the upper right corner.



Go to the most recent date and look for the following patch - KB2585542



Click on it once and click on “Remove” to the right.



Follow the instructions which will finish with a requirement that you restart your computer.







For Windows Vista/7:



Click on the round Windows logo (Start) at the bottom left corner.



When the pop-up menu appears, click on “Control Panel” to the right.



Under “Programs”, click on “Uninstall a Program”



Click on “View Installed Updates” in the upper left corner of the screen.



Click on the “Installed On” column header to sort by date and go to the most recent date.



Look for the following patch - KB2585542



Click on it once and click on “Uninstall” at the top.



Follow the instructions which will finish with a requirement that you restart your computer.
